An ancient Japanese method of healing, Reiki is derived from two words: rei and ki.  Reiki literally means God or higher power and life energy or the energy that flows through all living things. A Reiki treatment is a way of transferring energy and increasing your body's healing capabilities, leaving you feeling more alive and balanced.  A practitioner will transmit Reiki to the client through the gentle laying on of hands. The hands are lightly placed on and above the seven major energy centers of the body, called chakras, for minutes at a time. Hand placement includes around the head, neck, stomach and feet. Occasionally a practitioner may incorporate deep breathing techniques with guided prayer and meditation.

Very light swedish-style strokes can be applied as well as hand and foot treatments.  Depending on individual preference, any modality can be performed in this type of session.
